Lobster or Crane Fish?

Most of you have seen the You Tube Video, if not, the link is at the bottom of the blog. I was at the creek with the kids. We were trying to check on our tadpoles, which are now polliwogs. When Logan began screaming that she had found a crab. I rushed over not knowing what to expect. Boy was I amazed to find the ginormous crayfish. I caught it for her and rushed to show it to their dad.

Summer trips

We love to be on the go. Summer is a great time to go and explore. New critters have emerged. Plants are at their all time beauty. Bugs, oh bugs, they are everywhere.

We took a trip this past Friday to the McDowell Nature Center. The kids had a blast, we were the only kids there! We got to watch a lady feed all of the critters in the center. Then we took a walk on one of the many trails. The trail was along a creek. We found our very favorite beetle the "Click Beetle" or "Eyed Elater".

As we were leaving a car pulled in and a gentleman and his wife and dog came over. The children politely greeted them. The man said, "You must not be government schooled, You have to be homeschool or private schooled." Wow, I said, "Yes we do homeschool. How did you know?". He said, "Because your children are so courteous and well spoken." I was feeling rather proud at that moment. Thank God he didn't pull up when they were kicking each other and Logan was cursing something.

On the way home Logan had a little notepad and pencil. She was scribbling, page after page. I told her to practice writing her name or just the letters: L,o,g,a,n. She said, "No, I am writing Spanish!"

Fripp Day 4

Cody and Steve went fishing before our boat trip. They caught a couple of fish that we could not identify. Then at 12 noon we left the marina on our 21' Skiff. We traveled about 45 mins. before reaching Bull's Point (a private uninhabited island) It was eerie seeing the intercoastal waterway dump into the ocean and not see any ANY houses or other people. It was like we were in the middle of the tv show LOST. Miles of white sanding beached with shells galore! We found 15+ sandollars, 16+ inch conch shell, and a bucket full of other large shells! It was great. Then is was time to head back to the boat after walking for over an hour. I was worried that the tide might have washed our boat out the sea. Luckily it was still anchored in the sand. Then we headed back and took stops along the way to watch dolphins playing around our boat. We even watched a 5-6ft shark in the surf. We spent 4 hours out in the middle of nowhere exploring. It was heaven! The most striking thing I saw all day was an America Flag flying out in the middle of a salt marsh. There was literally nothing out there- not for miles. I was very humbled and honored seeing our flag flying.

Fripp Day 2 & 3

Day 2 & 3: Crabbin again (caught 10) The deer finally came back. Usually they are all around the house. We were worried that something was wrong- but they are back and Logan is thrilled! We went to Skull's Inlet and Logan caught minnow's, crabs, and a sting ray. Day 3- We crabbed more and went t0 the beach and swimming

May the 16th- 8am: Nolan & Logan are buckled in the van, ready to leave. 8:45am we pull out of the driveway.

Nolan learned to ride his bike!
