Math Fair and Final Comments on Cody

I sat at my desk trying to gather my thoughts for what I wanted to say and I got a knot in my chest. My thoughts begin with how awesome this year has been, then how awesome the past two years have been. I look out the window and I see him throwing ball with his Dad and I realize how much he has grown, just a few more months and he will be a teenager. My little baby is growing up. Nothing in life could be more valuable than being able to do what I have done in the past two years with Cody. I have spent so much time with him, I have taught him school lessons, life lessons, read books with him, laughed with him, taken trips with him, cried with him, and grown with him. No one said that this choice we made would be easy, to homeschool. It has its own unique set of challenges, but with optimism, perseverance, and a will, it can be achieved.

Cody has achieved everything that he has set out to do and more. He has completed every task assigned. Tonight we had our final project for his math class. He had to present his project for the math fair. He worked for 4 weeks (while continuing his normal math studies). He competed against 6th-12th grade math students. Judges were brought in to score each project. Cody received the top score and highest award. During one of his classes his teacher asked him to explain his pattern of magic squares to the class and afterwards the other children patted Cody on the back and said, "I am glad that you are doing this project and not me".

Next year Cody will be returning to public school and our hope for him is that he will take the valuable lessons that I have taught him and use those lessons to help him excel in school. Cody's desire to return to public school comes from wanting to run Track and Field and play JV Baseball. We are so proud of him and I miss his smiling face next year.

I couldn't be more proud of Cody. He is not only good at everything he does, but he also is one of the nicest, most polite, helpful, and fun kids I've ever been around!! Susan, I am so proud of you, too. You are a wonderful mother and teacher, and your kids are proof of that!
Love,
Grandma Linda
