Buttercup

Last night Steve and Cody were at the ball field. Nolan and Logan were enjoying watermelon at the kitchen table. I had the backdoor open, while I was cleaning the kitchen. Charlie was on the 3rd stair watching everyone, Chase was under the table, and Maggie (the cat) was sitting in the kitchen watching me (and meowing for treats). All of the sudden I see something out of the corner of my eye, then the chase began. Quicker than I could turn around Maggie and Charlie where on top of a baby bunny. I am screaming "Holy *&%$", over and over. Nolan and Logan are now standing in their chairs, Logan thinks it is a raccoon or fox. When I began to scream the cat dropped the bunny, which had made its way into the dining room. Maggie decides she is going to try to get it again and the bunny scoots under a record cabinet. I shooed all of the animals outside, got my gloves on (what am I thinking- gloves!!!), and moved the cabinet, where I found the tiny baby bunny, cute a button. Logan names it Buttercup. We made Buttercup a comfortable bed with food and water. We wanted it to spend the night to make sure that it did not sustain any injuries. At 6am this morning Logan wakes us wanting to check on Buttercup, who had escaped from her nice box. We found her under the couch, healthy as a tick. We drove Buttercup to a "safer" place in the woods, away from all of our meat eating rabid animals. (smile) Now she is back where she belongs. A bunny in my house, now how did that happen?

Chase, Charlie, and Maggie are hoping that the door will open for them. They want a taste...

93 years and going strong

We visited my grandfather who turned 93 today (born May 1916). I think he is getting healthier as he gets older. He has a great memory and great sense of humor. I am so lucky to have in him my life, he is the last grandparent that I have left.

Math Fair and Final Comments on Cody

I sat at my desk trying to gather my thoughts for what I wanted to say and I got a knot in my chest. My thoughts begin with how awesome this year has been, then how awesome the past two years have been. I look out the window and I see him throwing ball with his Dad and I realize how much he has grown, just a few more months and he will be a teenager. My little baby is growing up. Nothing in life could be more valuable than being able to do what I have done in the past two years with Cody. I have spent so much time with him, I have taught him school lessons, life lessons, read books with him, laughed with him, taken trips with him, cried with him, and grown with him. No one said that this choice we made would be easy, to homeschool. It has its own unique set of challenges, but with optimism, perseverance, and a will, it can be achieved.

Cody has achieved everything that he has set out to do and more. He has completed every task assigned. Tonight we had our final project for his math class. He had to present his project for the math fair. He worked for 4 weeks (while continuing his normal math studies). He competed against 6th-12th grade math students. Judges were brought in to score each project. Cody received the top score and highest award. During one of his classes his teacher asked him to explain his pattern of magic squares to the class and afterwards the other children patted Cody on the back and said, "I am glad that you are doing this project and not me".

Next year Cody will be returning to public school and our hope for him is that he will take the valuable lessons that I have taught him and use those lessons to help him excel in school. Cody's desire to return to public school comes from wanting to run Track and Field and play JV Baseball. We are so proud of him and I miss his smiling face next year.

Nolan #5 again

Nolan's first game was this Saturday. He is playing for the Boston Red Sox (we wish he had been picked by the Yankees) I thought the photo of him blowing a bubble was priceless.

Nolan made a triple here. He hit it into the next playing feild!
