Pinewood Derby

Today, January 31, 2009, our little man competed in his first Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Weeks of preparing his car included; cutting, sanding, painting, decals, wheels, lube, glueing, and weights. If you have ever built one of these, you know that if you want to win you have to do your homework! Homework is what dear Dad did.

We were instructed to go to car inspection and impound Friday night. The Boy Scouts regulations says that a car cannot be over 5.000 ounces. Nolan's car weighed in at 5.000. The Den Leader said, "Wow, it is a real art to get your car so precise." We got to do a test run and then the car was impounded for the night until the big race day!

The hard work paid off. There were 160 races, in which Nolan raced 20 times. He was the ONLY undefeated car! He took home the 1st place trophy. The children were asked to vote on their favorite car design. Guess what???? Nolan also won best in show!

We knew he had a fast car but we never dreamt that he would win. Many of these kids have raced for years and their car designs ranged from surf boards to a car cut out in a screw design.

We will be competing in the district race. We will let you know how we do! Wish us speed!
