Pinewood Derby

Today, January 31, 2009, our little man competed in his first Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Weeks of preparing his car included; cutting, sanding, painting, decals, wheels, lube, glueing, and weights. If you have ever built one of these, you know that if you want to win you have to do your homework! Homework is what dear Dad did.

We were instructed to go to car inspection and impound Friday night. The Boy Scouts regulations says that a car cannot be over 5.000 ounces. Nolan's car weighed in at 5.000. The Den Leader said, "Wow, it is a real art to get your car so precise." We got to do a test run and then the car was impounded for the night until the big race day!

The hard work paid off. There were 160 races, in which Nolan raced 20 times. He was the ONLY undefeated car! He took home the 1st place trophy. The children were asked to vote on their favorite car design. Guess what???? Nolan also won best in show!

We knew he had a fast car but we never dreamt that he would win. Many of these kids have raced for years and their car designs ranged from surf boards to a car cut out in a screw design.

We will be competing in the district race. We will let you know how we do! Wish us speed!

Nolan's new paragraph

Nolan's paragraph reads:

SNOW

I like to play in the snow. I like to sled. I do not like to eat snow. It tastes like bugs.

Christmas Day

I have alot to be thankful for this Christmas. I am thankful that we are all together, as a family, we are healthy and we want for nothing. I am very happy that Cody was able to be with us Christmas and did not have to shuffled around. BUT, Christmas morning didn't go without glitches. The kids got us up at 6:15am. By 8:30 we were finished with the gifts. By 9am the power went out. I had a casserole in the oven for breakfast that takes an hour to cook. The power did not come back on until 10am. Then the refridgerator would not work (a GFI swtich behind the stove was to blame). It took awhile to figure out what was causing the problem. But finally everything worked itself out and we left for the Hamel's house. Christmas at the Hamel's was "over the top", as Cody says.

Nolan and Logan gave Grammy books to read (to them).

The BIG mess! :o)

Next The Mathis family came to our house!

Steve was excited and surprised about his sign!!! Nolan was estatic that Uncle Fritz helped him put his robot together!

Christmas Morning

It was difficult for Cody to open his presents because Chase (the dog) wanted to open them for him. Chase LOVES opening gifts (bizarre dog). The most memorable moment was when Cody opened the Guitar Hero and fell to the floor and cried. He has wanted this for three years and he finally got it. He was so emotional. All the kids said that this was the best Christmas ever!

This kids were sent on a scavenger hunt by Santa Claus. It took over 30 mins of clues to find the prize- a new Wii!!!! The last present was Cody's new bike. He thought that the gift giving was over until the doorbell rang and Steven was there with a new mountain bike.

Christmas Photos

Christmas Eve we made Reindeer food (to help guide the Rudolph to our house).
The dogs are ready for Chrismtas!

The children are writing letters to Santa to accompany the cookies.

We opened Christmas Eve presents and Logan got a baseball glove!
